The Best Hot Dog Sauce

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

If you've ever visited Provo, Utah, you've most likely heard of a hot dog stand called JDawgs that serves the best hot dogs on the planet. They have a few tricks up their sleeve, but one of the best parts is the JDawg sauce that you can get drizzled all over your hot dog. This recipe is an amazing copycat. We always have a squeeze bottle full in our refrigerator. My two celiac kids don't eat hot dogs without it!

The Best Hot Dog Sauce

Makes 2 cups

3/4 cup ketchup

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon BBQ sauce (we like Sweet Baby Rays)

1/4 cup honey

1 teaspoon cider vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

dash black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. After it comes to a boil, remove from heat and allow to cool. Store in the refrigerator.

Step-by-step tutorial:

Gather your ingredients. You will need ketchup, brown sugar, BBQ sauce, honey, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and black pepper.

In a saucepan, combine 3/4 cup ketchup, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce, 1/4 cup honey, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder.....

.....1 teaspoon cider vinegar, 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, and a dash of freshly ground pepper. Bring to a boil to dissolve the sugar. Once it boils, stir and remove from heat.

Once it cools, you can transfer it to a serving container. We love these awesome squirt bottles you can get on Amazon here. They are useful for so many things!

Grill those hot dogs, toast your hot dog buns, and drizzle this delicious sauce all over it. You can add other toppings like onions, relish, sauerkraut, cheese, etc. We love this sauce so much that it can go solo and we are loving life!

Sounds good except for the honey, some of us have an allergy to it, recently developed and need a substitute for it.
