Nutella Twists

When there is both pastry and Nutella involved, something amazing happens! Thanks to Schar's gluten free puff pastry dough, these little beauties came to be, and we can't get enough. A simple dessert or brunch item that only needs a few ingredients. Nobody ever knows they are gluten free!

Nutella Twists

Makes 1 dozen

1 package Schar gluten free puff pastry dough (or your own homemade puff pastry)

1 cup Nutella

1 egg, beaten

Coarse sugar

Unroll one of the rolls of thawed puff pastry. With wet fingers, press together any cracks. Roll with rolling pin to even out. Spread Nutella over the entire puff pastry. Unroll the second roll and prepare the same way. Carefully lay over the top of the other pastry and roll with rolling pin. Using a pizza cutter, slice into 12 strips, each about one inch wide. Prepare a baking pan by covering with parchment. Take each strip and carefully twist it a few times and place it on the baking pan. Brush each with beaten egg, then sprinkle generously with coarse sugar. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes on the pan before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step-by-step tutorial:

Gather your ingredients. You will need puff pastry dough (the Schar brand is amazing!), Nutella, an egg, and coarse sugar. Only 4 ingredients!

Be sure your puff pastry dough is thawed according to package directions. Unroll one of the rolls (it comes with two) leaving it on the parchment it was rolled in. Using wet fingers, press any cracks back together. Gently roll with a rolling pin to even out, then spread about 1 cup Nutella on top evenly.

Unroll the second roll, leaving it on the parchment it's wrapped in, and fix and cracks. Carefully lift with the parchment and place on top of the Nutella. Roll with rolling pin.

Using a pizza cutter, cut into about 1-inch strips. I got 12 strips from this package.

Prepare a baking pan by covering with parchment, then take each strip and twist it as you place it on the pan. Brush each with egg and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool about 5 minutes on the pan.

Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

They are amazing a little warm, but also very good at room temperature. Like I said, the combination of Nutella and pastry is a winner!

This is fun to serve at a brunch or for a late-night dessert. The whole family will love them!
