Caramel Apple Cider


With fall comes fresh apple cider! Whether from the orchard, farmer's market, or grocery store, it's so good this time of year. As the temperatures turn cooler, you are going to want a mug of this apple cider with a twist. Mixed with a homemade caramel, then topped with caramel whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon, this cozy drink will warm you up on any cold day.


 

Caramel Apple Cider

Serves 4


Cider:

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup brown sugar

3 cups fresh apple cider

1/2 cup water


Caramel Whipped Cream:

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoons brown sugar


Ground cinnamon, for dusting


In a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup heavy cream and 1/4 cup brown sugar to a boil over medium heat. Stir in the cider and water and heat through. Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, whip 1/2 cup heavy cream with 1 tablespoon brown sugar until soft peaks form. Divide cider among 4 mugs, then top each with some whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve immediately.


 

Step-by-step tutorial:


Gather your short list of ingredients. You will need a good quality apple cider (found in the refrigerated section of grocery stores, or at farmer's markets), heavy cream, and brown sugar.


In a small saucepan, heat 1/4 cup heavy cream and 1/4 cup brown sugar over medium heat.


Bring to a boil.


Pour in 3 cups apple cider and 1/2 cup water. Warm it completely through, stirring occasionally.


To make the caramel whipped cream, whip together 1/2 cup heavy cream with 1 tablespoon brown sugar until soft peaks form.


To serve, divide the warm caramel cider between 4 mugs, then top with the caramel whipped cream and a dusting of ground cinnamon.
