Brown Sugar Brownies

These are the fudgiest, most delicious brownies in the universe! Because they are made with only brown sugar, they have a richer flavor, and the fudgy level is off the charts. They come together so fast so that you can have a pan of dream brownies in a matter of minutes, crackly top and all. Of course, they are studded with chocolate chips for that gooey factor!

Brown Sugar Brownies

Makes an 8x8 inch pan

1/4 cup butter (half a stick), melted

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg

2 teaspoons vanilla

3/4 cup gluten free 1:1 flour (Bob's Red Mill is my preference)

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line an 8" square baking pan with parchment or foil. Spray with cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the melted butter, brown sugar, and salt. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Add the flour and cocoa powder and mix until combined. The batter will be thick. Stir in the chocolate chips. Spread the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes until the center is mostly set. Don't overbake! Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Step-by-step tutorial:

Gather your ingredients. You will need butter, brown sugar (light or dark), salt, an egg, vanilla, gluten free flour (1:1 or cup for cup works great), cocoa powder, and chocolate chips. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment or foil, leaving long edges to use as handles to lift the brownies out later. Spray with cooking spray.

In a mixing bowl, beat together 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 cup packed brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add 1 egg and 2 teaspoons vanilla and beat until smooth. Add the flour and cocoa powder. Slowly mix until it comes together, then beat on medium speed.

Add 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips and stir in. Spread the batter in your prepared pan. It is a thick batter! Bake for 15 minutes or until the center looks set. You don't want to overbake though so you can have fudgy brownies.

Now the hard part..... you need to let the brownies cool completely before slicing. Let them cool for about 10 minutes in the pan, then using the foil or parchment handles, carefully lift out and place on a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, cut the brownies into squares. If you use a plastic knife, the brownies won't stick to it.

The crackly top is so magical to me! I love brownies that have this. The fudgy factor is just perfect too.

Who would have thought that making brownies with just brown sugar could make such a big difference? You are going to love the rich flavor and fudgy consistency so much!

Of course, those melted chocolate chips aren't bad either. :) Enjoy!
